The Columbus Lions have a new offensive line coach for the upcoming 2021 NAL season. Sean Johnson, a former OL/DL himself, was hired by Jason Gibson, the Lions Head Coach, this week to work alongside an already impressive talent lineup. “Sean brings a lot of energy to the organization. I love his passion for the game and professionalism. Sean has a talent for finding quality players and players want to play for him. That is a good quality to have and we are lucky to add him to our already All-Star staff of Brandon Reed and Brandon Thomas. The 2021 season is going to be special.” commented Jason Gibson, Head Coach / Director of Football Ops. From 2017 to 2019, Johnson was a coach for the pro-development team, the Georgia Cardinals. Impressively, they were all championship seasons for the club! Johnson, in 2019, was the youngest coach in the American Arena League (AAL). His on-field knowledge helped the Cape Fear Heroes to seven wins and three losses for the season. Under his leadership, the Heroes OL was acknowledged with an AAL All-League selection. Johnson started as an OL/DL for Erasmus Hall High School in Brooklyn, New York, before making his professional indoor football debut in 2014 with the Alabama Outlawz of the X-League. In the inaugural 2017 National Arena League season, Johnson found himself with the Georgia Firebirds of nearby Albany, Georgia. “My motto is ‘We Block, We Win’,” Johnson commented. “I feel the personal development of our players and getting the right guys in the right position, will bolster the chances of our championship quest. The small details are what birth a championship, and we have an amazing opportunity to bring another one here to Columbus!” The future seems bright for our Columbus Lions.
