Mattox began his career as a 3-star recruit from Clarke Central High School in Athens, Georgia before committing to the University of South Carolina. After his freshman year Mattox transferred to East Mississippi Community College, known for the recent Netflix special "Last Chance U", before eventually finding a home at the University of North Carolina-Charlotte. During the 2013 season at Charlotte, Mattox led the team with 85 tackles, including 49 solo stops. Mattox also tacked on 2 INTs on his way to being selected to the FCS Independent 1st-team All-Conference team.
Mattox continued his stellar play into his professional career, where he starred in the NAL for the Maine Mammoths during the 2018 season. Spending a majority of the time at the Jack Linebacker position, Mattox used his athleticism and defensive-back intuition to give opposing quarterbacks fits. Despite only appearing in half the games for the Mammoths, Mattox was second on the team in INTs (4) and was a major factor in a team that won 6 of their last 7 games - including the last 5 consecutively. Mattox looks to bring that same intensity and playmaking ability while playing defensive back for the Lions in 2019.
Stay tuned to see who the Lions will bring to the Jungle next!
