Three time Champion Columbus Lions announce first tryout for 2019 season

09/08/2018 6:26 PM

The Columbus Lions, seeking their 5th straight championship appearance, have kicked-off the 2019 campaign with the announcement of the first tryout for the 2019 roster.  The tryout will be held on October 27th, at Hughston Clinic Field inside the Columbus Civic Center in Columbus, Georgia.

Led by a revamped player personnel department, the tryout will be dynamic in the sense that every participant will be able to show the entire Lions' staff their full capabilities.  The tryout will be separated into two sessions.  For the morning session, the Lions have partnered with Impact Performance of Columbus to test the participants in the traditional "combine testing" of the 40 yard dash, L-Drill, and the 5-10-5 Shuttle, as well as some upgraded performance tests developed by Impact Performance.  For the evening session, participants will be able to show off their skills as football players, as the session will consist mostly of positional related competition.

The Lions would like to stress this is an INVITE ONLY event.  In order to receive an invite to this workout, the first step is to fill out a player questionnaire that can be found online on the Columbus Lions website under the "Team" tab and OPEN TRYOUTS.  Every questionnaire will be carefully screened and evaluated by the Lions player personnel department and by Lions Head Coach Jason Gibson.  If you are selected to attend this workout, you will be contacted directly by the Lions organization with further instruction.

At the tryout, each athlete selected will be evaluated directly by the Lions personnel department - including 3 separate regional scouts.  Each athlete will also have their reps filmed in order to be reviewed at a later date, receive an exit interview from Lions personnel, and supplied with Supercharged - the official sports drink provider of the Columbus Lions.  Each athlete will also be available to be selected for an invitation to a private workout in February where each athlete will compete for actual training camp roster spots.  If an athlete proves himself as an elite football player and makes the final 2019 roster, he will be refunded his workout fee.

Stay tuned for more announcements on upcoming tryouts in your region, as the Columbus Lions search for top tier talent as they continue to revamp their roster in the quest for their 5th consecutive championship game appearance.
